What Happens When You Throw Glitter

Granted my birthday was nearly a month ago, it was amazing nonetheless.

The night before my mom graciously made the best melt-in-your-mouth chocolate mocha cupcakes. WE WERE ALL DEAD. But no one can have my mom. She’s mine.
Then she made me the cutest headband party hat that I wore along with my “Birthday Girl” button. I know. I’m crazy.

After a great day at work, I came home for a mini glitter shoot with my sister. Actually it was me forcing her outside with handfuls of glitter and my camera and then literally being swarmed by a thousand mosquitoes… but details right?

THE AFTERMATH:

After dousing ourselves in rubbing alcohol to kill the itching, we sat down for my favorite meal: roast, potatoes, carrots, and green bean casserole. And a beer in a frosted mug. Mmm….

Gel mani/pedi and a haircut. THE best way to end a week. Ahhh! I hear you, Calgon. Go on and take me away.

Thanks to all that wished me well. 🙂 May all of your birthdays live up to mine!

Twenty Three

k-bost_Design-Crush

Today is my twenty-third birthday.

I was born September 30, 1990 to my parents, James and Charlotte Taylor. I’m the first of three redheaded, fair skinned girls with sass, wit, and style.

I’ve never not been Melody Elise Taylor Rich. (Well, Rich came later.) I’ve never not been redheaded and fair skinned. I’ve never not been stubborn, Type-A, dramatic, and sensitive. My family has always been James, Charlotte, Shelby, and Rudy.

These 23 years have been an absolute gift of learning myself and who I am. From the day I was born I was given this puzzle with thousands of pieces and each situation and each day gives me new experiences to realize where each piece fits. It’s so odd to me that I could be born myself but still have so much to figure out about who I am.

Last year I turned 22. These last 365 days have… hurt. They have pulled and stretched me into new directions and forms. I’ve experienced some things I pray I’ll never see again and other things I pray I do. God has shown me his abundant grace and sweet mercy time and time again and I’ll never get tired of feeling that wash over me.

My prayer for this year is a continuance of His awakening for me. I pray that He would continue to pull me in new directions and teach me more about who I am in Him. I want to see myself like He sees me.

As far as goals for myself I want to become self-sufficient and independent. I owe my family a deep debt of gratitude for seeing me through this year and to Pat for handing me an incredible job on a silver platter. But this is a new chapter for me. I’m a single adult woman with the world at her feet. I want to live in an apartment, just me and Pepper girl. Buy only chocolate for food and save for ridiculous material things. Take road trips spontaneously and spend every weekend at a concert.

There are a lot of decisions left for me but more is left unwritten. I’ve got no plans, no deadlines, no timelines.

I am so excited!

I’m twenty three. Let the future begin.

I wore this to run a bunch of errands yesterday. One of them being getting a shot. 🙁 Tell me how ridiculous this is: I needed a bacterial meningitis shot for online classes. Weird, right? So after finally getting the shot I’ll have to take the proof to the school office and get them to take the hold off my account so I can register for the classes hoping they’re not full yet. 🙁 I hate shots! I haven’t had one in a while and it wasn’t pleasant. What is it about the tiniest piece of metal being poked into my skin that I can’t stand?

Afterwards I spent a while in Walgreen’s spending my graduation money on makeup. Look out for a haul post soon!

Yesterday was also my sweet mama’s birthday! My sister made her surprise chocolate banana bread for breakfast and I made a chocolate cake and my special cookies! Yum!

Today I’m off to a secret meeting with a friend for a super cool post coming in the future. So look out for it! 🙂

Happy Hump Day!

xx

MY SISTER IS LEGAL.

Today my sister is 21. She’s been waiting for this day only so she can go to a bar and order a cosmo. (And buy moscato.)

She’s crazy just like me and we’re always on the same wavelength. (Even though it’s mostly a stupid one.) She is beautiful inside and out (cliche, but true) and will forever be a role model for me. I am so incredibly proud of her for moving away to college and living alone, something I could never do. She’s made friends and has become a light of Christ to them. We share the same passions and the same goals and I love talking about how we’re progressing towards those things and seeing how God is lining up our lives. She plays with my dog and does my hair for all of my important events. She documents our lives with her camera so the rest of us don’t have to. (And because she loves it and because she rocks at it.) She makes us all laugh and invented my favorite word, FLARP. If we could have we would have been born twins. It’d really just make this whole thing easier.

So Shel, from me, Jason, Pepper, Little Bit, and Toonces we wish you the happiest of birthdays.

Now go get a cosmo already.

Birthday style!

tee/belt: Target, necklace: unknown, skirt/booties: Forever21, ring: c/o InPink

I blogged earlier about Jason’s surprising me by taking me to a restaurant I’d been begging to go to. It was a dressy place and my sister, who’s been before, let me know if this outfit was alright. 🙂 I loved it! I’d never thought of wearing this skirt so high up on my waist but with some Spanx it worked. 😉 Never mind the stains on it! Good thing there was dim lighting in the restaurant. They had dessert but we wanted to stretch our legs so we drove to the nearest Dairy Queen for some blizzards afterwards. We spent the long drive home talking about our future, our marriage and anything under the sun. I always love talking future with Jason. We both get so excited 🙂

Hope you’re having a good week!

Saturday Swoons

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these! I just wanted to share a few things I’ve come across that I thought to be pretty/would look great in our home/on me. (Too many slashes?) You know, my birthday is coming up in a few weeks…

One: Dorothy Perkins Leopard Scarf, $17
Two: Fresh eau de Parfum Sugar Lemon, $24.95
Three: Selma Sneaker, $24.99
Four: Cow Skull Mosaic Mirror, $145
Five: Merona Boyfriend Watch, $14.99

I’ve probably wanted a leopard scarf for a year and a half now and haven’t ponied up the $15 to buy one. There’s a really great one at Target right now. Long and full! Don’t miss out on it! I think leopard goes with everything! And I know what you’re thinking. Those sneaker wedges are like, what, so 1995? Well, I used to absolutely HATE them. Until I saw two pretty stylish ladies wearing them. And they’re black. Instead of white with laces… *cringe* Also, I’ve been really wanting a cow skull. SO. BAD. Problem is, all the ones I find are too expensive for me. Anyone have a dead cow? Much obliged.
