Awkward and Awesome

It’s THURSDAY! Hallelu, hallelu. To me, it doesn’t feel like it. Today alone I’m working on four separate assignments. Mercy kill? Anyone?

-I came home Monday and sat on the couch to talk to Jason. When I got up I heard opera music outside. I looked out the window and lo and behold our neighbor was sitting on her back porch singing. opera. What?! Who knew a fifty-something year old woman and I would have something in common? In LANEVILLE of all places?
-One of my teachers… he’s nice enough.. but..
-Our student accompanist. He wears a seashell necklace. You know the kind. The thin white shells that string into an entire necklace? Oh, and he cusses. A lot.

-When we heard our operatic neighbor Jason said, “Hey! You could put that in your post!” 🙂
-It RAINED yesterday! Oh, it was glorious. I had forgotten what it felt like.
-Our one year anniversary is coming up! 😀
-Uh, we have an operatic neighbor. How many people can say that?

So tell me your awkward things!

A Case of the “I Wish”es

Ever have a case of “the wishes”? Where you wish you were somewhere else or in a different place in your life or had all the money in the world? I think I live in a permanent state of the wishes.

Going to school for another two years seems like a drag. I wish it were over.
I wish we were in a place to start a family.
I wish I could go out and buy everything I need/want to make our house feel more like a home.
I wish we were millionaires. I’ll settle for thousand-aires.
I wish I had my dream job.
I wish I had a big group of really close friends I could call on at a moment’s notice to do crazy stuff.
I wish I were more disciplined.

You get my point? Do any of you constantly live in a state of “the wishes”? These things are fun to think about but at a certain point they become a little burdensome. Thoughts?

You Will Never Think of Me the Same…

When I worked at the public library I shelved countless books: adult, reference, children, youth, large print… I loved the library (most of the time) but my favorite room was the youth room. Mostly because I could hide back there and sit down for a while but most-mostly because of the books. It’s a small room, and the books are sparse, but whenever I could I’d meander back there and try to find some books worth reading. I found some real winners!
The IT Girl series by Cecily von Ziegesar.
1.The IT Girl
2.Notorious
3.Reckless
4.Unforgettable
5.Lucky
6.Tempted
7.Infamous
8.Adored
9.Devious
10.Classic

Set in New England, the main characters are a group of best friends going to private school. Materialistic, dramatic, girls.. you get it. This series comes either before or after Gossip Girls. Jenny Humphrey is a lead character in this series, for those of you who watch Gossip Girls. (I KNOW, okay. But they’re so good!) I started this series right before I quit working at the library. They only had the first four books so when I finished them I was so dissappointed in the ending until I found out there were SIX MORE BOOKS!

Pretty Face by Mary Hogan

A book about a high school girl who struggles with her self-image and self-esteem. She spends a summer and Italy and learns that her image doesn’t have to center around her weight. Such an awesome book. I felt like I was the girl! SO SO good.

I’m on Pinterest and have been pinning some books lately. They’re just as deep as the ones I mentioned above. 🙂

Playing the Field: The Game’s On and the Girls Are Out to Win
by Zoe Foster (Doesn’t it look really deep?)
Jean Bennett, aspiring jewellery designer, knows as much about football as she does astrophysics. But when she moves to the bright lights of Sydney and falls in love with star footballer Josh Fox, she has to learn – fast.

Thrown eyelashes first into the world of WAGs, Jean is way out of her league. She navigates her way through semi-finals, a gruelling social calendar and salacious scandals on Josh’s arm, safe in the knowledge he belongs to her – or so she thinks. But as her hair gets blonder, her heels higher and her tops lower, Jean begins to wonder who she’s become..

Bossypants by Tina Fey
Her biography that everyone says is so. funny. I really want to read it. Feel free to get it for me for a late birthday present. 🙂

What are some of your favorite books? Let me know so I can read them!

Back to the Beginning

Remember these dumb things on Myspace/Xanga/Piczo(OHHH I went there)? Well, now it has made its way into the blogosphere and I thought I should do one. 1. I’m bored. 2.uhhh…yeah.. Just read it okay?

Age: 21.

Bed size: Queeeeeen.

Chores that you hate: I actually like chores…? Just wish we had a dishwasher that worked!

Dogs: None. But my dream dog is a golden retriever and Jason’s is a schnauzer.

Essential start to your day: Kissing Jason before I leave for school or he leaves for work.

Favorite color: Uh, all of them! I love looking at pretty color combos. It makes me want to redecorate our whole house even though we haven’t finished decorating it to begin with..

Gold or Silver: BOTH.

Height: 5’4″

Instruments you play: Took piano for two years. I’m decent, but nothing to write home about. I should really practice more… Jason’s trying to teach me guitar.

Job title: STUDENT… but I don’t get paid. I hate you FAFSA. And partially UTT.

Kids: When one of us finally finishes school, we’ll start thinking about it.

Live: Where? Texas.

Mother’s Name: Charlotte!

Nicknames: Mel. I think it’s neat that everyone Jason works with calls me Mel because that’s how he refers to me. Neat.

Overnight hospital stays: None so far but plenty of stitches!

Pet peeves: “Just sayin’.” I LOATHE that phrase. Starting something and not finishing it. GOSSIP. Good grief I hate gossip. Never having enough time for anything. Let’s just leave it at “I have a lot of pet peeves but you would probably dislike me if I said what all of them were..”

Quote from a movie or tv show: “What is your name? What is your quest? What is your favorite color?”

Right or Lefty: Right.

Siblings: Dos hermanas.

Time you wake up: 6.20-6.30 am MWF. 10.30 TTh.

Underwear: Every day.

Vegetable you hate: I really want to like bell peppers…

What makes you run late: Sleeping in.

X-Rays You’ve Had: Teeth and some on my foot. My sophomore year in high school I played volleyball. When the JV was done playing we had to stay and watch varsity to “learn”. I was walking out of the locker room and someone not paying attention rammed into the solid metal door and the bottom took my toenails clean off. All she said was, “Oh. Oops. Sorry.” And walked out continuing to talk to her friend. I spent that lovely evening in the hospital taking hydrocodone (Uh, ew. How do people get addicted to that? It made me crazy nauseous then I fell asleep.),  getting X-rays and being pushed around in a wheelchair by an orderly who wasn’t keen on conversation. Crazy weird night.

Yummy food you make: Potato soup, anything chocolate related, Mexican crock-pot chicken tacos, roasted vegetables..

Zoo Animal: Umm.. Can it just be an animal? I don’t know, all kinds.

Now that I’ve completed that I’m an official blogger, right?

Awkward and Awesome

Hello all! Happy Thursday! It’s about time this week ended. It seems like every week I get assignments on top of assignments and the weeks speed by so I’m left wondering how I only have one night to do them all! Slow down, semester! Slow. Down.

-When the body building conducting assistant hugged me for my birthday. Uh.. hi. I’ve never spoken to you.
-Really. That one was really awkward. It deserves two slots.
-Studying my little heart out for a midterm and getting to the test and realizing I knew jack squat.
-Picking out an outfit for school, getting to school and realizing it wasn’t the best choice. I’ve really got to stop wearing those hot pink leggings.
-How wrapped up I am in school that I hardly bother to shave my legs at all anymore. Or even shower, for that matter. Sorry, Jason.

-My birthday! It was so. much. fun.
-Not having class until late Tuesday and Thursday and spending the morning watching Golden Girls.
-Staying up until 4am watching Netflix with hubs. Because we can.
-Finally starting on a big journal due next Thursday.
-FINALLY getting antlers! Thanks to my aunt and uncle who picked them up in Colorado last weekend. So. Awesome.

I wanna hear your awkwards. After all, those are always better than the awesomes, right?

Those Weeks

Sunday was such a good day. We woke up, went to church, had birthday lunch with the in-laws, came home and lazed in bed for the rest of the day. On our way home this happened:

Delicious, yummy rain. All the way home. It stopped by the time we got home but it was still dark and cloudy so we climbed into bed and watched more episodes of Breaking Bad on Netflix. It was a lovely night. However, Monday morning came and the dreaminess ended. The reality of more assignments came back and the rain had moved on. Sadness.

So far this week has been.. less than dreamy. It’s midterm and everyone is going insane. I’m ready for Saturday. Who’s with me?
