She’s a lumberjack and she’s okay

plaid: Stolen from my sister’s closet, jeans: Target, moccasins: Urban Outfitters, necklace: Target

I love plaid. I don’t actually own a lot of it, but I try to find some whenever I thrift. There just isn’t a lot out there! Whenever I’m over at my parents’ house I raid my sister’s closet. Since she moved away to college she left a lot of her clothes at home. This was my second raid and I was wildly successful. 🙂 So thanks, Shel. Even though you didn’t know I did that!

My recital is today. Squeeee! I’ve prepared all semester for it and can’t wait for it to just be over. 🙂 It’s going to be fun getting all dressed up and showing everyone what I’ve been doing in school for the past four years. I’ll sing French, Italian, and German with some English thrown in. I’ll get a CD of it and post it if you guys want to hear some!

See you tomorrow 🙂

Fall Lipcolors + First Giveaway! (CLOSED)

Well, some places it looks like fall is just beginning but month wise it’s ending! I wanted to get this post up before it was too late. 🙂 This time of year there are tons of places to go to dress up and look festive. I’ve started a.. ahem… collection of lipsticks and like to try and figure out how to wear colors like bright orange and neon pink. So to force you to try something new, I’m going to show you three very different colors to try this season!

Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey
This is a really nice, natural berry color even though it looks a little more nude in the picture. I think this is my lip color, only better and is a really easy wear. Pop this on for a casual party or thanksgiving dinner. Oh, and eat a lot of turkey.

Revlon’s Fire & Ice Super Lustrous Lipstick
RED! It’s a really great orangey red and everyone looks great in it! If you want to make a statement at your family thanksgiving pop this color on and saunter into the room like you own it. Just remember not to trip.

Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Wine Not
Okay, hear me out. Yes, this is dark. Yes, you’re probably having flashbacks of your high school drama class. But it’s screams holiday! Think of the twinklelights, candlelit buffet tables of homemade food by your family, pretty black dresses and heels… What? Your family isn’t super fancy like mine? (HAHAHA) Every skin tone can pull this off. I mean, look at my pale, pale skin up there!

So I’d like to give YOU a chance to try out all of these colors and rock your thanksgiving dinner. One (1) person will win a set of these three lip colors!

Updates around the house

Adding pinecones to our mantel for a little fall action!
These $1 candles from Wal-Mart don’t last long but they sure smell good.
Updating the guest room with some pompom balls my sister made and empty frames fills that big white wall.
Getting festive with our dining table centerpiece.
Sleepy kitty in our $2.50 estate sale chair. 🙂
Adding tinsel to the windows above my desk for a little girlyness.
Wearing my DIY geo earrings! I LOVE them!
Little pup in her kennel. 🙂

We’ve been enjoying fall around here! The leaves are changing and the weather is starting to get permanently cooler. We picked up a lot of firewood from my dad and can’t wait for it to get frigid and burn some! Yay, smores! 🙂

How are you enjoying the fall season? Has it snowed where you live?

DIY Geo Earrings

Time for a new DIY! Every time I pull out this clay I wonder why I don’t use it more. It’s so easy to use and fun! I’ve seen these small, geode studs everywhere and have been dying to make my own. I pick my own colors and it’s free. 😉 So! Here we go!

Supplies needed:
-Hot glue gun
-Baking clay
-Craft paint
-Earring blanks
-Earring backs
-Small paintbrush (not shown)
-Clay carving knife or sharp perry knife (not shown)

Step One:
Take a small piece of clay and roll it into a ball. You’ll want it to be bigger than the final product. Press it onto a flat surface. This will be the place where the earring back will be glued.

Step Two:
Take your perry knife and cut sharp angles into your clay. This is why your initial ball of clay needs to be bigger. You’ll be cutting hunks off!

Step Three:
Bake according to your package’s instructions.

Step Four:
Once baked, heat up that hot glue gun and get your paint ready.

Step Five:
Mark the bottoms and be sure not to paint this part. You want to be sure where to glue the earring blanks.

Step Six:
Paint them! *Here’s a tip: Glue your backings on first and then paint them. They’re easier to hold. 🙂

Step Seven:
If you didn’t already, glue on your blanks. You’re done!

Let me know if you try it and send me a picture of your final product!

Sunday cruising

Sunday morning I actually woke up at a decent hour after only having had 6 hours of sleep. Jason was up and I convinced him we should go and get donuts at our favorite place. This donut shop will never leave my memory. It was the place we had our first breakfast as a married couple on our way to the airport for our honeymoon. So every time we go there it always ends up being a perfect day. Sunday was no exception. After we bought $20 worth of donuts we drove downtown and found a vacant picnic table under an awning and had breakfast. Since most people were in church downtown was quiet. It was the perfect time to walk around and take pictures like I’d been wanting to do. (I still want to go back! There’s so much to be explored!) We drove around in some neighborhoods and saw some really beautiful houses. Almost beautiful enough to make me want to stay here. 😉

I love Sundays with Jason.

A family dinner

Last Friday my family came over for dinner and I crossed some things off of my fall goals list. 🙂 I roasted my first chicken and was thoroughly disgusted… until I tasted it. Oh, sweet chicken how I love you. Juicy, lemony, and buttery. I used this recipe from Eat, Live, Run. (Her buttermilk fried chicken is the BOMB and I made it the last time the fam was over!) Mom brought over her famous sopapilla cheesecake and brand spankin’ new olive and sun-dried tomato bread (which I’m sure will be on her blog soon!) and we all had a grand time. 🙂 Dad, in his classic fashion, fell asleep on the couch after dinner while the gals yacked it up.

I love, love, LOVE having them here. It just feels more like home with people in the house talking, moving around, laughing, and eating. I miss living so close.
