Beauty Tuesday: Favorites

Starting last fall I started getting really into YouTube videos about makeup. Specifically Beauty Broadcast! (You will get lost in her videos. Watch at your own risk.) I first found her after discovering that my favorite cheap makeup brand, E.L.F., had a website. I Googled their best products and one of her videos popped right up. I’ve learned loads from her videos and really trust her opinion. I follow more beauty vloggers now and after using some of the products they recommend I’ve compiled a list of my favorites!

beauty faves

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation for Combo/Oily Skin: $10-13 I’ve tried one other liquid foundation in my life before this one and I hated it. I didn’t know what I was doing or how to put it on. Emily from Beauty Broadcast raves about this foundation. I tried it and I love it. It wears so well and stays all day! They have a great color selection and formulas for different skin types.

E.L.F. Kabuki Brush: $6 This little guy is so soft! I use it to blend together my blush and highlight so I don’t look like a clown. šŸ™‚

Wet N Wild Color Icon Shadow Trios: $3 Another Emily favorite I recently am trying. So far I really like these. They are very pigmented and last a decent amount of time. And, hey, they’re only $3!

Maybelline Baby Lips: $3 This has taken my Chapstick’s place. They are tinted lip balms and they smell so good! The darker ones give a little stain to the lips which I like. They are super moisturizing and make my lips softer when I wear them more days than not.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen: $8 I was never a fan of liquid eyeliner, but I never knew why. I finally figured out it was the type of applicator I was buying. This is a pen! It’s extremely easy to use. Instead of holding a tiny stick with a glop of eyeliner on the end I just pop the cap off this guy and literally draw on my eyes. Love it.

What are some of your favorite beauty thaaangs? I’m all about some beauty. Let me know in the comments!

Fall Lipcolors + First Giveaway! (CLOSED)

Well, some places it looks like fall is just beginning but month wise it’s ending! I wanted to get this post up before it was too late. šŸ™‚ This time of year there are tons of places to go to dress up and look festive. I’ve started a.. ahem… collection of lipsticks and like to try and figure out how to wear colors like bright orange and neon pink. So to force you to try something new, I’m going to show you three very different colors to try this season!

Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey
This is a really nice, natural berry color even though it looks a little more nude in the picture. I think this is my lip color, only better and is a really easy wear. Pop this on for a casual party or thanksgiving dinner. Oh, and eat a lot of turkey.

Revlon’s Fire & Ice Super Lustrous Lipstick
RED! It’s a really great orangey red and everyone looks great in it! If you want to make a statement at your family thanksgiving pop this color on and saunter into the room like you own it. Just remember not to trip.

Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Wine Not
Okay, hear me out. Yes, this is dark. Yes, you’re probably having flashbacks of your high school drama class. But it’s screams holiday! Think of the twinklelights, candlelit buffet tables of homemade food by your family, pretty black dresses and heels… What? Your family isn’t super fancy like mine? (HAHAHA) Every skin tone can pull this off. I mean, look at my pale, pale skin up there!

So I’d like to give YOU a chance to try out all of these colors and rock your thanksgiving dinner. One (1) person will win a set of these three lip colors!

On Running… Or Something Like It

I’m not a runner. Never have been, but hopefully maybe will be someday. I’m not an athlete. I’ve never been athletic. Never. That just isn’t me. It isn’t how I was raised. I’m not competitive. I could care less what team wins or what team I play on. (If I ever actually do play a sport. šŸ˜‰ I tell you this because what you’re about to read shouldn’t be read coming from a runner, an athlete, or a competitive person. It’s from someone who has struggled her whole life to be comfortable in tennis shoes.

I went running last night. Well, ralking…or wanning? Wunning? Rulking? I started Ease into 5k for the… third time? and plan on actually finishing this go round. But this was the first time out of all those times I’ve exercised that it became a worshipful experience for me. A chunk of time that I could use to praise my Savior. Shocked? Yeah, me too! Like, who uses panting and sweating and adjusting that too-big-t-shirt-as-it-sways-in-the-wind as a way to glorify God? Seriously.

In all the times I’ve started (<<anchor of this sentence) running (ralking; see above) I’ve dreaded it. Well, except for that one time that I kind of enjoyed myself? But then took out my headphones and realized how hard I was breathing and how hot I was in that God-forsaken gym without air conditioning. But this time… oh this time! I was relaxed. It was in the 70s, a rarity for Texas in June. It was the magic hour and the sun was so beautiful through those trees I wished I had the DSLR.

In the Ease into 5k app you have to make a playlist. I chose all the songs I thought would inspire me to “be a runner”, but what does a non-runner know about picking a runner’s playlist anyway? I did my best. I had all but finished the workout as best I could when the song came on. You know the one. The one that makes you visualize yourself on a stage, mouthing all the lyrics in time and strumming that imaginary guitar even though you’ve never had a lesson. The one that pushes you to go on even though you really can’t. That song that has that great build up towards the end that gives you goose bumps so you knowyou can do this.

The song brought me into a state of worship. And I finished. With all my breath. Relaxed and able to make the walk back home without a problem. Even though my mouth tasted like grass and sweat and all I could think about was drinking anything to get that taste out. I worshiped and forgot what I was doing. I wanted to run in that moment, which was ghastly contradictory to my feelings just ten minutes prior.

I always wondered why Christian authors wrote weight loss or diet books. I always figured that Jesus had no place in exercise or eating healthy. I was wrong. Because why wouldn’t He? Why wouldn’t He, the Creator of everything, including me, care about my health and body image? Why wouldn’t He belong there? I know now what has been missing from my motivation for bettering myself: Jesus.

And I know what you’re thinking. Like, duh, right? Well, yeah. DUH. šŸ™‚

YOU GUYS!

I missed you so much! Man it feels good to be back here again. So if you haven’t heard, let me fill you in. It’s the tale of tales. (Oh, and I’m going to be narrating it with pictures of how I felt.)

When school ended I kind of quit blogging. I was so overloaded with school stuff that I just really didn’t have the time. Right after my last exam I drove to meet my sister at her school to help her move back. I ended up staying with my parents for two days. Fun? YES. But I didn’t have clothes. Plus, my brain was still reforming itself from being goop for the past four months.

After sleeping entirely too much for a week I was going to hop back on the wagon and give it another go. But every time I tried visiting my site I got an error. I checked my host’s FB page and found they were doing maintenance. Cool.

Not cool. My hosting company’s server company (does that make any sense?) didn’t follow my hosting company’s orders as to how to go about shutting down their servers for the maintenance. In doing so, they fried the hard drive and the backup hard drive.

My site was on that server.

Being a good businessman (holla, Chris) he didn’t freak out his customers and let us down easy. I was distraught? Sad? Depressed? Beside myself?

Not remembering that I had a previous blog with my older posts on it I was hysterical thinking everything I’ve ever written had vanished never to be recovered.

After I calmed down, I made sure my old site was still up (it was) and Jason told me about Google caches. I filled the gap from my old site to my new site thanks to Google. However, they didn’t cache my pictures. So if you remember a post and it isn’t up anymore it’s because I have no clue what pictures go to it. Also, I might have changed some pictures because again, I have no idea what pictures go where.

For the most part I figured it out, though.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, I thought I made a backup back in February of my entire site but it turned out to be a fake. So I had to manually repost everything from a year ago. Only after deleting my site four or five times because we had installed it wrong. Yeah. I’m exhausted.

But! Here we are, ol’ pals, ready to ride the trail of cats and style again. Are you ready?

I Make My Stuff Live in a Bag

This is all the stuff I carry with me every day, well, besides the cat. No, a lot of it isnā€™t pretty but itā€™s functional, hah. Including the cat.

Lipstick: Please appreciate the amount of lipstick I have. Thatā€™s probably my favorite part of each morning; picking out which one to wear and then dangerously applying it in the car on the way to school because Iā€™m too impatient to wait until I get there.

Coins: That strawberry coin purse is hilarious. Target had a banana and a watermelon too for the same price, but I compared them all and this one seemed to have the most space. Thatā€™s really sad isnā€™t it? Comparing coin purse sizes? haha. (Not online! $5 in store.)

Headphones:Those headphones are the GREATEST earbuds Iā€™ve ever had. They are Marshmallow by JVC, I think. They never hurt my ears when I wear them for a long time and the sound is really great. Plus, your neighbor canā€™t hear your music! Win win!

Wallet: Cheap-o Wal-Mart wallet. The only reason I bought that coin purse was because the coin part of the wallet kept opening in my bag and spilling everywhere.

Pen: I always have a pen either for class or to write random things down wherever I am. I got tired of asking whoever was around me if they had a pen!

Target bag: I really love this bag. I got it before my trip to NYC in high school because our teacher said if we carried shoulder bags we would get mugged. Well, jokeā€™s on her because someone tried to mug me on the subway even with this bag. So I donā€™t think that prevented me from being mugged. But thanks. (I think Target still sells one just like it!)

iPhone 3g: Slowest. Phone. On. The. Planet. But I looooove it. I hear that Appleā€™s iPhone 5 is debuting this fall so Iā€™m holding out until then. Also, weā€™re cheap.

Purple Mystery Pouch: Once was a pencil bag. Now used for nail files and random things. But at least all the random things are together. Are they still random?

Cat: This is her life.

When It Rains

shirt: Target, sweater: ?, pants: Target, shoes: stolen from my sister, necklace: Rue21, umbrella: Target

I gotta say, I didnā€™t know how Iā€™d feel about having short hair but I love it. Like l-o-v-e it. No more rat nest when I wake up! Though itā€™s taking me a while to figure out what to do with it. No more blogger top knot or normal pony tail. I canā€™t wait to see what it looks like a couple of months from now. If I can make myself get a trim every once in a while. (Which I never do.)

Since coming back from vacation I feel like everything just kind of whooshed back into reality and left me in the middle of a hurricane saying, ā€œWhat!?ā€ I have to sing on recital next week, work on a conducting midterm, practice with my accompanist and somehow start weeding through my research for a history paper due at the end of the semester. After yesterday it all kind of mellowed out since I got some other things out of the way. But sheesh! Now I understand why vacations during school are always better if left to the summer. But you better believe I wouldnā€™t have given up that beach week for nothinā€™. Still mourning the lossā€¦
