Bummer

Everyone mourn with me! Waaaaaaaaa!

Okay, that’s enough.

So a couple weeks ago the lens on our DSLR started acting up. Sometimes the body wouldn’t detect it so nothing would happen when I turned it on and it would stick when zooming. J thought in his infinite tinkering wisdom (sarcasm…?) that he could take it apart, fix it, and put it back together no problem. He took it apart, fixed it(…?) and hasn’t been able to put it back together. Since we don’t have another lens because we’re saving to buy a new body, I virtually have no camera.

We had already put back some Christmas money for ourselves so we decided to go ahead and buy the lens we were wanting ahead of schedule. I bought it in nearly new condition from Adorama and paid $100 less than the price of it new. I got it, slapped it on our camera body and tested it out. This horrific scraping and grinding noise came out when I tried to autofocus. Yeesh. So now I’m sending it back to be fixed and then to be sent back to me! Who knows how long that’s going to take.

In the mean time, the DIY projects I wanted to do are postponed because little ol’ P&S can’t handle those up close shots. Outfit posts should be fine though. This one was! So thanks for hanging in there through all these silly blog problems. I’ll try to get dressed more often. 🙂

Real Life

We haven’t been very busy since The Fall. (that’s what I’m calling the big crash…is that dramatic?) We’ve been hanging out more together (yay!) since my head isn’t always buried in school and Jason’s school is coming to a close so he’s home earlier and when school lets out he’s off on Fridays! I’ve been much lazier than I should be but I keep telling myself that it’s summer and I deserve a little relaxation time before I start tackling all of my summer projects. It’s not even June! Can’t wait to share those projects with you, though! There are some good’uns.

How’s your summer going?

Free-Lensing

I first learned about free-lensing from this post by the gals over at A Beautiful Mess. I tried it out but my Nikon kept saying “No lens attached” and wouldn’t let me shoot! I googled it and figured out I needed it set to something other than ‘auto’. Bam! I could start free-lensing. The post was right-it’s tricky. Especially since everything has to be manually focused as it’s not attached to the camera body. That was a little odd to get used to. And I know these pictures aren’t the greatest examples but I was so excited I got to try it I had to share it with you!

The post warns that if you’re shooting outdoors that dust can enter the camera body and to be aware of that. I shot the pictures of my cactus outdoors but didn’t have any trouble that I noticed. The post also says that after a lot of practice you can achieve a tilt-shift effect, kind of like the picture of the dinosaur above. I was really impressed with the swirl effect on the second picture of the cactus.

So, what do you think? Would you try free-lensing?

What We’ve Been Up To

My incredibly lucky sister got to go to NYC this week and skip school. Texas A&M-Commerce’s choir got invited to sing at Carnegie Hall! How AMAZING is that?! She kept sending me pictures all week and these were my favorites.
-View from her hotel at night
-The FOUR STORY Forever21.
-Central Park

It’s been a pretty lazy week, despite my monstrous music history test I had to study for. (I think I did alright! Here’s to hoping for a B…)
-LB has discovered the sink.
-The COOLEST decal I saw parked next to me Wednesday. LOST fans? Anyone?
-A favorite picture my sister took of us.
-The Blue Man Group was playing at the Cowan center (the big auditorium at UT) and they’re “stuff” was sitting in the hallway beside my voice lesson. Crazy cool.
-Just saw this on our A/C temp controller yesterday. If you’ve been in a choir you know who this guy is. If not, google him!
-Homemade calzones. 🙂
-Our new couches on the trailer.
-The best place to eat near us!
-Picking up some books at the library.

All I did yesterday was workout (every day this week so far!), do all the dishes from this shin-dig (finally–embarrassing), laundry, and listen to the Civil Wars on Grooveshark. A very productive day I’d say. 🙂

How was your week?

PS. Google Friend Connect was recently discontinued. So if you were following me through Google and can’t anymore, follow me through Bloglovin’. The link is on the left under my picture. 🙂

Engagement Session

Everyone go to http://angeladuncanphotography.blogspot.com now. 😀

I cannot express to you how incredibly excited I was to FINALLY do our engagement photo sesh with Angela on Monday. Jason went to college with her for a while so they’ve been friends and he introduced me to her photography and I instantly fell in love. I fell even more in love when I met her! Her personality and the way she deals with her clients is like she’s old friends with them. She is incredibly sweet, funny, helpful and all of the other good adjectives. 🙂

Needless to say, I was ecstatic to see she had blogged our session today!! I was smiling so big when I was reading her blog just now.

Throughout this wedding planning process, I’ve come to a lot of ‘brick walls.’ I’ll think I’ve found something/someone I’d want to use for our wedding and nothing ever would really work out. Then the perfect thing will fall right into my lap. God is funny like that. He never moves in the way you expect Him too. And that’s just what I love about Him. 🙂

Here are some pics I snagged from Angela’s blog… 🙂
