DIY Marathon Date Day.

HEY GUYS. Whoops, sorry. I mean, hey guys. So Friday we had Little Bit scheduled to finally be spayed. (HALLELUJAH no more of that flippin’ crying all the time!) We had to check her in an hour away, though everything is an hour away from Laneville, at 8am. Yikes. Since it didn’t seem smart to drive two extra hours back home then back to town, we decided to make an entire day of it. We called it Marathon Date Day!

So here’s what we did and how to recreate it. (Cat optional.)

7:08-7:30: Drive.
7:30-7:40: Watch a hot air balloon race and ask Jason stupid questions. Suggestions: How do hot air balloons land? Why is fire hot?
7:40-8: Drive some more.
8:00: Drop LB off at the clinic and try not to cry.
8:30-9: Errands. (Optional, unless you are an adult. In which case, do your errands.)
9-10:30: Cave to gluttony with carb cakes! (Success!)
10:30-11: Coffee! (Overpriced Starbucks/awkward self-portrait optional.)
11-3:30: Shoppity, shop shop in the form of Target (be sure to find a friend and complain about how much your feet hurt but smile so your husband knows you’re having fun with him), Best Buy, Target again, and Kohl’s. If possible, follow your husband into the dressing room to watch him try on sports paraphernalia.
(Insert a ridiculous heat wave and me dying from it and then coming back to life here.)
3:30-4:30: Lunch at the best Mexican food restaurant ever, El Sombrero. (Not optional.) Here, I chose to become a ravenous monster and chew Jason’s head off when I became hungry. This part is certainly optional.
4:45: Pick up LB and head ouuuut. (But get your own cat. She’s mine.)

The one that birthed me.

Yesterday was my dear mother’s birthday. I spent the night Sunday so I could spend all day with my parents, since they both had the day off, and sisters. And like my dad would say, “It’s like olden times!” Sweet mama hasn’t aged a bit! She’s sweet, funny, wheezy, and crazy just like all of us girls she birthed. She’s an incredibly talented artist, an amazing cook, a serious baker, and a one-in-a-million mom. She raised us to be smart, goofy, hilarious, domestic women. Paired with my dad they made the best duo in the history of marriage. I see myself turning into her more and more every day. And I like it.

I love you, Ma! Here’s to a bajillion more years.

Cool stuff I bought for real cheap. Wanna see?

I said yesterday (wait, what day is it?) that my sister and I went to Houston for a little day trip. She stayed the night and we hit up the two thrift stores here. This giant church’s thrift store (FPC Thrift Store) and Goodwill (lame city/way overpriced). Srsly, the FPC is the GREATEST. EVER. They improvise on their prices. No price tag? Eh.. two bucks. I got a real fur coat, house stuff, and other clothes there all for $30 back in the fall. Wait, why am I telling you?! You’re going to take all the good stuff! JK.. I already bought it all. πŸ™‚

So! Here’s what I thrifted from these magical places.

Cobalt blue trousers, polka dot skirt, crazy awesome patterned swing shorts.

Buttload of head scarves.

$2 leather bag, pleated skirt, striped sleeveless top.

Champagne flutes, wooden coasters, turquoise swan, and wait–what is that?

It’s a cat! No, it’s a pig! It’s a CIGPAT!

And this is Little Bit. I didn’t thrift her. Well, kinda. She likes to let me know who actually owns my stuff. Because why would it be me?

What have you thrifted lately? Any places I don’t know about that I need to hit up? I promise I won’t reveal your secret spots! πŸ™‚

A little day trip…

Yesterday my sister (if you don’t read her blog, I don’t even know what to say to you.) and I took a little day trip to Houston. We had lunch with my cousin (an amazing photog!), drove through downtown, and had dinner at one of Guy Fieri’s Triple D spots! Cafe Pita. Delish Mediterranean/Greek food. Yum-o! On our way home we jammed out to music, chatted about anything and everything, and sipped on coffee and mocha frappes from Starbucks. A perfect, perfect, Wednesday. πŸ™‚

Egg Sandwiches are the Greatest Thing to Happen to Me.

Since coming home from Chattanooga late Sunday night, I’ve been reveling in the incredibly rainy week we’re having here. I’ve been missing waking up earlier! Even though I’m off during the summer doesn’t mean I don’t need vacation from myself. Sitting around twiddling my thumbs while Jason is at work does not a sane Melody make!

Also since being home, I’ve fallen in love with egg sandwiches again. It’s meat! It’s protein! It’s a vegetable…? You can seriously put anything on eggs and it will taste good. Avocado, mayo, feta, pepper jack, lemon, spinach… where does it end!? There’s also been a lot of this:

Sleepy cats in my lap wasting away the rainy afternoons. This is my life!

I’ve also been really hard at work on that surprise I told you about here. It’s been heartbreaking, exciting, upsetting, disappointing, and exciting again. I can’t wait to tell you! But just like me, you’ll have to wait! πŸ™‚ (…again…not a baby :P)

I’ll end with some instas of our trip around up there in good ol’ Tennessee.

It wouldn’t be The Rich Style without a feet shot. πŸ™‚

I’ll be back later this week with a full recap of our trip!

Something You’ve Already Heard a Million Times Today

But I have to say it…?

Happy Independence Day!

Currently the youngest cousins are popping fireworks in the street while most of the adults are in the house. We trust the little ones around here. πŸ™‚ So happy fourth! Hope you’re safe tonight.
