House Tour: Living and Dining Room

This is pretty much the only room in our house that is actually (semi) finished! Our bedroom is missing carpet, our game room has glue all over the wood floors, and the guest room just needs work! We’re hoping to save up enough money to move in the next couple of years so we’re not putting any money into this house until then. Yay, moving!

Surprisingly, every single thing in this room is free (or cheap!) to us. It was either gifted, found, or from our wedding. The couches and dining table were given to us by our parents and all the vases, linens, and throws were gifts or thrifted. The side tables were bought at a flea market. We really needed those! We were using the floor and an old chair πŸ™‚ Our liquor/linen cabinet is from Jason’s work. They were cleaning out the home economics room and we snatched it up! Can’t wait to refinish it and reline the back and hopefully add another shelf. There’s too much vertical space in the bottom for me! The antlers on the mantel were found in Colorado by my aunt and uncle. The baby’s breath in the vases are from our wedding table. Yes, I’ve kept them for two years. It’s probably time to throw them away? The chevron lampshade is a DIY I did last summer, one of my favorites in the room!

Still to do in here are curtains, trim around the ceiling, cushion for our bench, and recover dining chairs! Looks like a big trip to IKEA is in order… πŸ™‚

Thrifty

Here are some of the gems I’ve picked up lately. I don’t shop all that often since we’re saving a lot right now. But it seems like when I do I find some pretty good stuff!

Β Top to bottom: Old Navy ruffle tank, brand new Old Navy flats, floral and leather weekender bag (my favorite find! $2!), chevron sheets that will be made into curtains, and an accordion coat rack.

What are some things you’ve thrifted lately?

Cool stuff I bought for real cheap. Wanna see?

I said yesterday (wait, what day is it?) that my sister and I went to Houston for a little day trip. She stayed the night and we hit up the two thrift stores here. This giant church’s thrift store (FPC Thrift Store) and Goodwill (lame city/way overpriced). Srsly, the FPC is the GREATEST. EVER. They improvise on their prices. No price tag? Eh.. two bucks. I got a real fur coat, house stuff, and other clothes there all for $30 back in the fall. Wait, why am I telling you?! You’re going to take all the good stuff! JK.. I already bought it all. πŸ™‚

So! Here’s what I thrifted from these magical places.

Cobalt blue trousers, polka dot skirt, crazy awesome patterned swing shorts.

Buttload of head scarves.

$2 leather bag, pleated skirt, striped sleeveless top.

Champagne flutes, wooden coasters, turquoise swan, and wait–what is that?

It’s a cat! No, it’s a pig! It’s a CIGPAT!

And this is Little Bit. I didn’t thrift her. Well, kinda. She likes to let me know who actually owns my stuff. Because why would it be me?

What have you thrifted lately? Any places I don’t know about that I need to hit up? I promise I won’t reveal your secret spots! πŸ™‚

iPhone pictures, vacation chat, and an outfit

shirt: Gap thrifted, jeans: Target (similar), earrings: JCrew, sandals: Old Navy (similar)

These were taken before a spontaneous trip for lunch on Friday with J. We then shopped till we dropped. It was so nice to get out of the house!

Sorry for all the iPhone pictures. The lens I bought that was broken still hasn’t been fixed and returned so until then it’s either lackluster point and shoot pictures or lackluster iPhone pictures run through instagram. πŸ™‚ Instagram it is.

Right now we’re getting ready to leave for vacation in Tennessee for a week with family. Can’t wait to hit up the big flea market up there and visit the Atlanta aquarium! Don’t worry, I’ll be blogging all week while I’m there. Hopefully I’ll get some outfit posts but I have a feeling we’ll just be eating, drinking, and chatting 24/7. And that is A-OK with me. πŸ™‚

That Time We Were Stalked in Drug Emporium

striped dress: Old Navy, lace skirt: Target, sandals: F21, sunglasses: thrifted
Thanks Shel for the pics!

I love this dress. The only problem is it’s just a tad too short for me. Layering tights underneath is fine for cooler temps but it is WAY too hot for that. After exhausting my brain for other options I saw this skirt begging to be layered underneath. It adds just enough length to this dress to be worn without leggings. Woohoo! Skirt shopping has a whole new dimension now. πŸ™‚

Yesterday I went with my sister to take our other sister to the movies with some friends. We wasted time in the hidden gem that is Drug Emporium looking at all the health foods and super cheap hair products. Whilst on said hair products aisle, I happened to look to my left and see a gentleman about our age giving me the side eye while “looking” at the shampoo. I wish I could show you the look he was giving us. It was like a cheesy detective following someone around and hiding behind a cereal box.
I secretly pulled Shel to another aisle so I could tell her and laugh together. We walked back out of that aisle and passed the same guy like he had come to find us.
We moved to the other side of the hair aisle and looked over towards the front of the store. He was standing by the curling irons watching us. Again.
We moved again to another part of the store. Watching us. Again.
We moved to the makeup counter thinking he’d back off if we were in the feminine part of the store. Shel walked over to me and said, “He’s at the perfume counter.” I said, “Yeah.. let’s check out and leave.”
We walked to the front of the store, checked out while keeping a watchful eye, and walked out.
I looked over to Shel and asked if he was still watching us. She didn’t want to look but neither did I. I got in the passenger side of the car and turned back to look.

HE WAS STANDING AT THE DOOR WATCHING OUT AT THE PARKING LOT.

What kind of…?!

We talked the whole way home about how we wish we were brave enough to approach people like that. But a weirdy stalker guy in the middle of the day following two girls around in a health store? WHO DOES THAT?

Pink Stripes

shirt: Target, jeans: Target, earrings: Goodwill, sandals: Aeropostale (old)

This is probably the first time I’ve ever paid full price for anything at Target besides food. But who buys food at Target? I’m going a little crazy over here because I nearly forgot about a big test this week so I was up way too late studying last night and still have a presentation to give tomorrow and a 10 page paper to write before finals.

Curse you procrastination.

See you in May.
