iPhone pictures, vacation chat, and an outfit

These were taken before a spontaneous trip for lunch on Friday with J. We then shopped till we dropped. It was so nice to get out of the house!

Sorry for all the iPhone pictures. The lens I bought that was broken still hasn’t been fixed and returned so until then it’s either lackluster point and shoot pictures or lackluster iPhone pictures run through instagram. šŸ™‚ Instagram it is.

Right now we’re getting ready to leave for vacation in Tennessee for a week with family. Can’t wait to hit up the big flea market up there and visit the Atlanta aquarium! Don’t worry, I’ll be blogging all week while I’m there. Hopefully I’ll get some outfit posts but I have a feeling we’ll just be eating, drinking, and chatting 24/7. And that is A-OK with me. šŸ™‚

3 Tart Summer Drinks

The heat has really started to kick it up these past couple of weeks. What better way to kick back than with some cool, tart drinks?

Up first is the Flamingo.

Start with 3 ounces of pineapple juice. Add 4-5 ounces of cranberry juice along with 1/4 ounce of lemon juice. Top off with bubbly club soda. (If your club soda is old it will taste watered down and flat. Trust me on this.) Drink up!

Up next is the Cinderella.

Pour 4 ounces of pineapple juice, 4 ounces of orange juice, and 1-1/2 ounces of lemon juice. Add a bit of grenadine and/or sugar if it’s too tart. I did! Strain over ice!

Last up there’s the Cranberry Cooler.

Fill a glass with ice. Pour 1 tablespoon of lime juice and 2 ounces of cranberry juice. (It’s better if it’s really concentrated. Mine wasn’t so I had to add quite a bit more.) Top with club soda.

Mmm! Three tart drinks that could definitely be accompanied by some alcohol or blended into a slushie. YUM! Let me know if you try them!

5 Recipes I Want to Try

1. Key West Grilled Chicken
2. Clean and Lean Lettuce Wrap
3. Dark Chocolate Bacon Ice Cream
4. Browned Butter Strawberry Shortcake
5. Dijon Chicken Linguine

These seem perfectly light and delicious for summer. Well, besides the pasta and bacon ice cream. šŸ™‚

There’s lots more on my Pinterest food board. I make myself hungry just looking at it. I was thinking the other day about this Word document FULL of recipes I copied before Pinterest existed. I haven’t touched that document since. I’m sure it’s spilling over with deliciousness but who wants to sift through text when I could be looking at beautiful pictures of food? šŸ™‚

Chocolate Covered S’mores

I made these delicious chocolate covered s’mores the other day. They were really easy to make but surprisingly difficult to eat. All I did was roast them in the oven, melt some chocolate, and dip! Easy-peasy. I’d like to know how to harden the outer chocolate while keeping the marshmallow from getting tough…Suggestions?

I also recently bought a popsicle mold and these look super summery. I wonder what flavors they are…

What are some good summer treats to make?

When It Rains

I gotta say, I didnā€™t know how Iā€™d feel about having short hair but I love it. Like l-o-v-e it. No more rat nest when I wake up! Though itā€™s taking me a while to figure out what to do with it. No more blogger top knot or normal pony tail. I canā€™t wait to see what it looks like a couple of months from now. If I can make myself get a trim every once in a while. (Which I never do.)

Since coming back from vacation I feel like everything just kind of whooshed back into reality and left me in the middle of a hurricane saying, ā€œWhat!?ā€ I have to sing on recital next week, work on a conducting midterm, practice with my accompanist and somehow start weeding through my research for a history paper due at the end of the semester. After yesterday it all kind of mellowed out since I got some other things out of the way. But sheesh! Now I understand why vacations during school are always better if left to the summer. But you better believe I wouldnā€™t have given up that beach week for nothinā€™. Still mourning the lossā€¦

Grattis pƄ fƶdelsedagen!

No, your computer didnā€™t malfunction. Thatā€™s ā€˜Happy Birthday!ā€™ in Swedish. Why Swedish? Well, I just finished reading Stieg Larssonā€™s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Is it sad that it took me almost a full chapter to realize it was set in Sweden and not some weird America? And the happy birthday? Well yesterday was sweet Jasonā€™s 27th birthday! A post is coming up about his day later this week. So while Iā€™m trying to get my head back on straight after our incredible beach vacay, how about the coolest thrifted blouse ever?

Oh yeah, and I got all my hair chopped off! I think I lost 5 pounds when I did. It looked like someone ate my hair then threw it up all over the floor. Thatā€™s how much hair there was. I can turn my head without it getting yanked or stuck under my armpit! I can brush through it in less than 10 minutes! I can curl it! I have HEALTHY BANGS THAT I DIDNā€™T CUT MYSELF! Thank you, sweet sweet hair savior, Kelso/Michael.

Yes, we had an amazing time on our vacay thank you for asking! Believe me, there will be some picture heavy posts coming up once I melt back into reality this week. We hit the motherload on thrifting down there in ye olde gator state. They have 1/2 off Mondays! GET IT TOGETHER, TEXAS.

In other thrifting news, did you guys know that Tyler is getting a Platoā€™s Closet!? I almost had a panic attack when I saw that. EEEEEP!

PS. How humongo does my ring look up there? The waitress at dinner last night said, ā€œIs that your wedding ring!? Awwwright!ā€ šŸ™‚

PPS. If you try to comment but get some kind of error let me know asap! My mom and I were having trouble commenting but as far as I can tell itā€™s back to normal now. Iā€™m trying to get this weird error fixed so if you canā€™t comment you can email me or (surprise!) like me on Facebook and comment there. šŸ™‚
