Spring Flowers

I love winter. I’ll be the first one to throw on a sweater and some boots and sit outside in the snow. I could live in the north with no problem. Cold? Bring it on. Ice? Yes, please.

Spring? Yeah… okay.

I love the 70 degree weather as much as the next gal, but winter is my home. However, when you throw me in any home and garden department in any hardware store I’ll spend all day in there. Flowers. Succulents. Fountains. My old lady self is in heaven. I secretly want a huge garden when I buy my first house. (Holler for making huge goals.)

Lowe’s is always on point in their garden department. It’s so photogenic! The smell too.. watery and fertilizery. Yummy.

Spend a Saturday afternoon in there with your significant other and try not to fall in love with everything. Best Saturday you’ll ever spend.

Hammer Time

cardigan: JCrew, blouse: Target, pants: Target, oxfords: Forever21, bracelets: Forever21/Target

I was feeling very Hammer Time-ish in these pants looking back. They’re the kind of pants that can jazz up an outfit while keeping me super comfortable running after thirteen kids all day. Even when the heat is slowly rolling in. (Noooooooo!)

Since the weather is warming up a little, it seems like my friends and I have been getting out a lot more. We’ve been stove up in our homes all winter (loving it, btw) having dinner but not doing anything too hardcore. Like, bowling, for example. Which apparently I turned out to be pretty decent at. I bowled a 111, my best ever. Maybe I should become a bowler…

I Did My Sister’s Makeup

Since hanging out with a new friend (Hi Lindsay Steele!) I’ve been super encouraged to dig more into my passion for makeup. For Christmas I gave my sister a coupon for a makeup lesson/tutorial thing. Before my little sister’s birthday party I wanted to let her redeem that coupon. 🙂 I had a blast and she learned a lot! Here’s the result.

Shelby wears a lot of bronzes and browns so I wanted to switch it up and give her a pink and purple look. I know the Naked 3 pallet is really popular now so I’ve been loving pink looks and wanted to try it out on her green eyes.

WHAT I USED:

Revlon Colorstay Foundation
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Rimmel Bronzer
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
ELF Studio Blush in Fuchsia Fusion
Wet N Wild Fergie Eyeshadow Primer
Smashbox Wonder Pallet
Urban Decay Vice 2 Pallet
Covergirl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara
ELF Eyebrow Kit in Ash
Bare Minerals Lipstick in Get Ready
Forever21 Highlighter
NYX Dewy Finish Spray

For Shel I wanted to get her to use less foundation and setting powder. Her skin is perfect and doesn’t need a lot of coverage. I used foundation just to balance out her skin tone and cover up some redness and set it lightly with the Rimmel powder. I contoured her cheekbones and around her temples to slim up her face and give her some more definition, as well. I set her whole face with NYX Dewy Finish Spray to give her a glowy look as opposed to the matte look she’s more accustomed to. I love how it turned out! What do you think?

Between Two Ferns

Our family took a lot of family dates over spring break since we were all off. It. Was. Glorious. On one of our dates we took Rudy out to eat for her birthday with our grandparents and then went to Lowe’s for a fire pit and general family things. Shel and I headed straight for the home and garden section for pictures and succulents. I’m in love with tiny plants! I have several succulents and cacti and just want to expand my collection.

The lighting and colorful plants made for a pretty amazing backdrop for these pictures.

Ina Garten’s Chocolate Globs

Winter took our little town by surprise a few weeks ago and threw sleet and snow all over the ground. A huge pink glob was hovering over us on the radar with no end in sight. Our power was fine all afternoon and then wham! Shut off. It surged a couple times before giving up completely.

After some panics and talk of Slenderman we lit all the candles we had and then sat around saying now what? Mom had the brilliant cliche idea of pulling out a board game. Specifically Wahoo. We’ve played this game for as long as I can remember and it’s the first board we pull out on vacations. If you’re not familiar, each player takes four colored marbles and rolls dice to move around the board to eventually get them all “home.” Rudy won, surprisingly.

Thank the Lord I had the foresight to bake cookies before all of that calamity.

These… are so delicious. We skipped the nuts in this recipe and just used what we had. It’s a very forgiving recipe and you can throw whatever you want in it! Make them. Now.

Ice Ice Everywhere

Ice covered every single inch of our neighborhood. All leaves, branches, blades of grss, bird baths… it was beautiful even though it was dangerous. The trees were weighed down and bent. The shell of ice crunched hard underneath my feet and Pepper’s paws. She loved it. Running and crunching and eating the ice. Finding her rope toys under the ice was like a game for her. I miss it.
