#ETXmeet

Did you guys know that there are people on Instagram that like, really love Instagram? I mean they love it so much that they meet people and form these groups and meet up and just take pictures for a few hours together.

Neither did I. And honestly the very thought of it paralyzes me with anxiety. But recently I started following more people on Instagram that really inspire me to take more pictures every day and stretch my creativity beyond outfit pictures a few times a week. One of these people posted about an InstaMeet earlier last week and after wrestling with the idea for a couple of days I convinced my introverted sister to go with me.
This was actually the very first Instagram official East Texas meet! How cool is that? Instagram sent Shawn (@srt4shawn), the one hosting the meet along with a couple other ‘Grammers, an entire InstaMeet kit complete with bug spray, apparently.

We met at Bridge281 Coffee in Longview (SO.DELICIOUS. and WHY had I not heard of it before?) and had coffee, met each other, and then spent an hour or so out back taking gorgeous pictures in the fields.

When the light was all gorgeous and beautiful we hiked back to the coffee shop and carpooled to an abandoned part of downtown.

Oh yeah. Did you know it’s illegal for you to even step on the railroad tracks? Some very tough police officers stopped us and told us that. #hardcore

It was so much fun getting out and experiencing something new. What a fun thing that people created.

Oh, Snap

I was scrolling through my camera roll on my phone and importing some pictures to my laptop when I realized I’ve taken a lot of neat photos but haven’t edited them or posted them anywhere. I don’t want to overload my Instagram or Twitter or Facebook. So I remembered I had a blog I could post whatever I want on! So here’s a new feature I’m starting called Oh, Snap where I’ll post some cool/kewl pictures I’ve taken and just want to share with the world. 🙂

All of these are from my iPhone

Social Print Studios

Of all the blogs I’ve ever read, A Beautiful Mess continues to be a place I find inspiration in each post. Emma and Elsie are geniuses when it comes to decor, food and photography.

Both girls are big proponents of printing out photos to see the memories instead of just filing them away on a hard drive never to be seen again. One year for my birthday my sister printed out some of her instagrams that I fell in love with from Social Print Studios (Printstagram). For $12 you can print 24 instagrams! They come as squares which I think is so perfect for hanging on the wall like I’ve done above my bed. I’ve made a resolution to print more pictures this year to put up where I can see or make photo albums, just like 2001.

If you’re going to use this service, I have some advice. I found that the photos didn’t come out looking as sharp as they do straight from the camera. So I’d suggest using mpix.com for glossy prints and better quality. Use this service for fun photos like Instagram. Also, the upload process can be a little frustrating. Connecting to an Instagram account and printing pictures that way is a snap, but uploading photos from a computer is a little more difficult. When they upload the photos overlap each other and if one needs to be rotated it’s almost too late because the controls that appear when you hover over a photo disappear if another photo is covering it up. Does that make sense? Also, if you don’t upload the full 24 photos for $12 all at once, you’ll be charged the full price regardless and in your cart it does not tell you how many photos you have for each size. I ended up accidentally paying $12 for 3 pictures instead of 24 pictures because of this weird issue.

When all was said and done only one of my pictures was rotated the wrong way, but it’s still workable. I’m still coming up with ideas to display them but I want to make a couple books and then eventually make a photo wall with the rest!

Have you ever tried a service like this? What did you think?

Happy Monday!

Glitterbomb

I needed to take these on my birthday. I have stockpiles of glitter for no reason and love the bokeh it gives. Plus, I just really wanted to do it.

Sorry, Shelk. 🙂

Didn’t realize the HUGE mess it made along with the million of mosquito bites we accumulated while shooting these. When I changed clothes confetti and glitter fell.everywhere. It required an immediate shower. Then, this.

MY SISTER IS LEGAL.

Today my sister is 21. She’s been waiting for this day only so she can go to a bar and order a cosmo. (And buy moscato.)

She’s crazy just like me and we’re always on the same wavelength. (Even though it’s mostly a stupid one.) She is beautiful inside and out (cliche, but true) and will forever be a role model for me. I am so incredibly proud of her for moving away to college and living alone, something I could never do. She’s made friends and has become a light of Christ to them. We share the same passions and the same goals and I love talking about how we’re progressing towards those things and seeing how God is lining up our lives. She plays with my dog and does my hair for all of my important events. She documents our lives with her camera so the rest of us don’t have to. (And because she loves it and because she rocks at it.) She makes us all laugh and invented my favorite word, FLARP. If we could have we would have been born twins. It’d really just make this whole thing easier.

So Shel, from me, Jason, Pepper, Little Bit, and Toonces we wish you the happiest of birthdays.

Now go get a cosmo already.

Snaps

1-4. Snaps from my birthday! Jason got up early and made me breakfast and my sister printed me tons of her Instagram pictures! Can’t wait to hang them up!
5-8. Little Bit and Pepper. The closest they’ve ever been.
9-12. Greyscale.
13-16. The surprisingly beautiful Schlotzky’s drive-thru, a Panera date, new favorite drink (Yes, it’s girly. Yes, it’s delicious.) Berry trees at school.

I love it when my sister does her monthly Instagram posts so I thought I’d copy her a little. Of course, hers are always so much better than mine. 🙂
