#WhatMelWears: Donut Bench

Follow me on Instagram!

A few weekends ago my family came into town to celebrate my youngest sister’s birthday. The big 1-8. She got a fancy new tattoo that my mom drew (#trendsetter) and we spent the weekend eating and thrifting and being together. It ruled.

One of the days I was responsible for taking approximately 7,834 photos of my sister in approximately 47 outfits for “graduation.” I forced her and her boyfriend to take some of me though. It was only fair.

This bench is my second favorite thing about Glazed Donut Works. Their donuts obviously being the first. They changed up their menu and I could probably only eat their donuts for the rest of my life and be set. Do we have a deal, Glazed?

What’d you do this weekend?

Family Photos

Bet you thought I meant my human family, lol. NO. THIS is my family. Dogs. If it makes you feel any better, we took these after we took human family photos over Christmas. Notice I’m not wearing a sweater because Texas decided it would just kinda gloss over winter this year and head right into what it thinks is “spring.” Which, I mean, is fine I guess if you don’t own 62 sweaters and velvet leggings you want to show the world.

This was pre haircut in February and it was having a DAY. I could NOT get that turn out to tame and it was flat and weird and ugh. Even with short hair I still have issues.

You wouldn’t believe how difficult it was to get these girls to hold still for a minute while we took some photos. They were too excited to not be in a fence and wanted to get loose and play with my family. Crazies.

I’m wearing: jeans-American Eagle, booties-Shoe Carnival, shirt-stolen from Shelby, velvet kimono-local boutique

HAWT FIRE. My mom is adorable.

Anyway, happy finally Friday! I’m going to the enormous Round Top sale with friends for a girls’ weekend. I AM SO EXCITED. Sometimes I look back on my life and say, “God, no wonder I was depressed. I had no friends!” And then I think about all the cool stuff I get to do and the people I get to love in a healthy way and just get the warm fuzzies. Life is cool and hard and weird! That should be the tagline of this blog.

Did you see my collab post with Infinity Jars? Check it out!

Love you!

Granny Shades by the Water

See? I really did add more dresses to my wardrobe! A few weeks ago, Old Navy was having an $8 sale on dresses and this is one of the three I snagged. I don’t normally go for brighter colors but I’m glad I jumped on this one. It’s one of the more flattering dresses I now own! It also has adjustable straps. Very cool.

I was entirely too hot for anything other than the thinnest dress imaginable. We took the water taxi over to Charleston and walked around a bit to get a feel for the town. When I tell you that my entire body was covered in sweat, I mean my entire body. Okay?

dress: Old Navy, booties, earrings: Forever21, sunnies: thrifted

I’m eternally grateful to my past self for buying these flat booties. They’re pretty masculine and I love them. They’re also fuede*. Have you ever been to Charleston? I’d love to go back with a much smaller group and explore the city more and learn all its history. What were your favorite places?

I Want to be Ilana Wexler

Do you watch Broad City? Seriously, if you don’t, stop reading my blog RIGHT NOW and go watch the first episode on Hulu. Don’t have Hulu? Good god, I’ll give you my login JUST GO WATCH IT.

Anyway, Ilana is my spirit animal, just like every other 20something, and she wears these strappy bralettes in almost every episode. I scored this one at Forever21 for $10. It only came in black and white, but I should’ve just grabbed another black one. I wear bralettes way more often than a real big girl bra. Big girl bras are just too much work sometimes. Why not be more comfortable and not worry about straps showing and wear a bralette?! Win win.

What’s your opinion on bras? Comfy? More support? Braless? Let’s start a real boob talk in the comments.

Little Black Dress on a Private Beach

Promise me you won’t judge my ghastly unpedicured feet, okay? And definitely don’t look at them on a wide screen like I am, rn. Yikes.

Yes, it’s true! I just spent the last week bathing in the Charleston sun on a private beach. My cousin and his husband live there and while they’re vacationing in Europe for weeks on end (WHAT) and my cousin’s parents are watching they’re two boys, they rented us a mansion on the beach. Cool. All 40+ of my dad’s side of the family showed up and spent a week in bliss riding in a Bentley up and down the coast. NBD. I hope I don’t sound too braggy, but I think the rich life suites me.

And now for my two favorite photos of all time!

One of the 40+ people. <3

dress: Old Navy, bralette: F21, unpedicured feet: all me

I made a vow to myself to add more dresses to my closet this year. I’ve severely cut down the money I spend on clothes. Like, to $0. Not on purpose! But stuff like food and bills and an apartment kind of forced me to do that. So I’m being more intentional on the things I buy now. Namely this little black dress. It’s a really easy wear. Breezy, long enough for work, and flattering. No pockets, though. 🙁

All in all, I came back with no sunburn and a lot of new freckles on my body. That’s how my skin likes to do, see. Thank you Drew and Jim for a fantastic week! And thank you Jayden for the photobomb.

#WhatMelWears: Easter

It’s never too late for an Easter post, right?

Remember last year when I posted about choosing a birthday dress? I decided on this one that wasn’t even on the list. I ended up nixing the party and never got to strut in it so I showcased her for Easter. This mug is body.con. yo. I like my body, ok? But I don’t want something making me look pregnant. I’m not about that life. BUT. I worked it out with some hot pink tights. #twerk #icanttwerk
