Grattis på födelsedagen!

No, your computer didn’t malfunction. That’s ‘Happy Birthday!’ in Swedish. Why Swedish? Well, I just finished reading Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Is it sad that it took me almost a full chapter to realize it was set in Sweden and not some weird America? And the happy birthday? Well yesterday was sweet Jason’s 27th birthday! A post is coming up about his day later this week. So while I’m trying to get my head back on straight after our incredible beach vacay, how about the coolest thrifted blouse ever?

blouse: thrifted, jeans: Target via Goodwill (brand new-$5!!), boots: thrifted

Oh yeah, and I got all my hair chopped off! I think I lost 5 pounds when I did. It looked like someone ate my hair then threw it up all over the floor. That’s how much hair there was. I can turn my head without it getting yanked or stuck under my armpit! I can brush through it in less than 10 minutes! I can curl it! I have HEALTHY BANGS THAT I DIDN’T CUT MYSELF! Thank you, sweet sweet hair savior, Kelso/Michael.

Yes, we had an amazing time on our vacay thank you for asking! Believe me, there will be some picture heavy posts coming up once I melt back into reality this week. We hit the motherload on thrifting down there in ye olde gator state. They have 1/2 off Mondays! GET IT TOGETHER, TEXAS.

In other thrifting news, did you guys know that Tyler is getting a Plato’s Closet!? I almost had a panic attack when I saw that. EEEEEP!

PS. How humongo does my ring look up there? The waitress at dinner last night said, “Is that your wedding ring!? Awwwright!” 🙂

PPS. If you try to comment but get some kind of error let me know asap! My mom and I were having trouble commenting but as far as I can tell it’s back to normal now. I’m trying to get this weird error fixed so if you can’t comment you can email me or (surprise!) like me on Facebook and comment there. 🙂

Awesome Things

I “made up” a new hairstyle. I’ll try to get pics tomorrow.
Getting loads of compliments on my “made up” hairstyle. I really have a lot of hair.
Our Masterworks concert was Saturday night. John Rutter’s Gloria never ceases to make me cry.
Mexican food with my family and the in-laws after the concert. Lots of conversation and hot sauce with butter. Yum.
Someone is finally coming to look at one of my prom dresses for sale next week! Yay!
I’M GOING TO FLORIDA IN A WEEK.
Hearing all of my sister’s stories about her week in NYC. I want to go back!
That sister buying me a present that I will receive tomorrow. Hooray!
Did I mention I’m going to Florida in a week?

Finally starting to make a hair appointment! Me making a hair appointment usually goes about like this:
Hair grows out way too long.
Mel gets anxious and waits forever to call and make appointment.
Mel finally calls to make appointment. Hair stylist isn’t in.
Hair stylist calls Mel back at a number that doesn’t exist because Mel doesn’t know her own home phone number.
Hair stylist is friends with Mel on Facebook. Hair stylist messages Mel and gives a callback number.
Mel calls callback number. Leaves message without another callback number.
Mel leaves Facebook message with actual home number this time.
Mel eventually gets her haircut.

And they all lived happily ever after with freshly cut hair.

Mutually Exclusive

It’s no secret that the media (or whomever) preaches that thinness is beauty. I myself have struggled endlessly with this idea. But another surprising struggle on the other end of that spectrum is plus-sized fashion. I really can’t say it any better than Lydia. PLEASE read this. She nails everything I’ve been saying and thinking for years.

My FAVORITE quote from her post:
“…I do think there is something to be said for publications and media outlets which choose to tout the fact that you can be “plus sized AND stylish” as though the two are mutually exclusive. Personal style has nothing to do with size or ethnicity or wealth. Just as it is kind of offensive when someone proclaims how amazing it is it that a black girl has style, it’s equally insulting to be referred to as a curvy girl with personal style.”

Can you believe that? It makes me sick to my stomach knowing that girls all over the world, including myself, are being fed this load of manure. Accepting one’s self and loving one’s self for who they are is, sadly, a very difficult feat to overcome. Fortunately, more designers are debuting larger sizes while simultaneously condemning them, like Lydia said.

I really can’t say it better than her! Please go read her post!

Lipstick Diaries

I’ve found a new hobby: lipstick. Growing up I always thought lipstick was for moms and, well, grown-ups. But with all these awesome new colors (besides mauve and dark red) from affordable brands like Revlon I can add color to my badself. 😛

L to R: 013 Smoked Peach, 004 Pink About It, 616 Wink for Pink, 011 Stormy Pink, 435 Love That Pink, 720 Fire & Ice, 677 Siren, 010 Wine Not

Up until a week ago I only had Pink About It, Fire & Ice, and Siren (which had an unfortunate melting accident in the car so that’s why this is the only picture of it.) We “found” some leftover money in our budget so I bought 5 new lippysticks! Wee.

The one of the far end, Stormy Pink, disappointed me a tiny bit. I thought it was going to be a lot more pigmented than it actually was. But, I still like it. And Smoked Peach is a very neutral every day color while Fire & Ice, Siren, and the other brighter ones are for days ending in ‘y’.
As you can see in the second picture, I wear Pink About It the most (the second from the left in second photo). Though I think that’s going to change to Smoked Peach and Wink for Pink.

Any favorite lipsticks? I keep a running tab of the colors I want to try. There are only three more on my list!

PS. Lipstick for a great cause.

Just In Time

I get home from school on Tuesdays and Thursdays about 5. In winter, this is the beginning of the always beautiful Golden Hour. I just happened to walk outside and snap that beautiful sun behind me and capture the coveted flare. 🙂

It’s Friday!

Theory

cardi: pacsun, tee: pacsun, pants: old navy, boots: f21, lipstick: revlon pink about it

This was one of those outfits that looked so adorable in my head but then failed when I put it on but it was too late to change this morning. I felt great it in all day, but somehow seeing it in pictures I realize that neon yellow does absolutely nothing for me. And I need a haircut. Next couple of weeks don’t be surprised if my hair is at my shoulders.

PS. I finished Week 1 Day 2 of Couch to 5k last night! It was harder than day one. Mostly because I was feeling crappy about my hair, this outfit and blah blah blah. You know how it is. But I pushed through with hugs from Jason and finished it and it ended up not being as bad as I thought. 🙂 After Friday (it’s only 3 days a week) I’ll have 8 weeks left! Mark my words: I will be running on the beach at sunset on spring break.

And if I don’t, don’t hold it against me. I’m only human.

But I will.

But like I said… human.

🙂

Oh, and remember this wish list? I finally bought those leopard jeans. They’ll be here Saturday. BOOM. BOOM. POW.
